Happy New Year

Well I hope everyone had a good new year and that the coming year is a prosperous one. I ended up flying to my friend Steve’s house in Big D. It was a lot of fun. We went out to eat at a Mediterranean restaurant called Zois’. OOOOH, what a little slice of Heaven. I had the raw kibbe, which is like our version of steak tartar, and then we all ended up going outside to relax with some Turkish coffee and a Hookah pipe.

We then went to go see Walk The Line, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. Great movie. It made me think though about how the Marnie Nixon days are over. For those of you who don’t know, Marnie Nixon was a singer in the 50’s and 60’s who had the voice that everyone heard in all those big musicals.

She was the singing voice of such stars as Audrey Hepburn, Deborah Kerr, Natalie Wood, Jeanne Crain and Marilyn Monroe just to name a few, and sang for them in movies such as West Side Story, The King and I and My Fair Lady.

Everyone sings their own stuff now days. I guess that’s the way to do it though. If you’re gonna pay an actor a couple million bucks, they better sing their selves. But who knew these people could sing? I mean, I would have never thought that Joaquin could sound like Johnny Cash. And who knew Jamie Foxx could be a dead ringer for Ray Charles?

Well gotta go run some errands. More later.
